FAQs:
What is a Clinical Herbalist?
I'm a Clinical Herbalist because my
main work is with clients in a clinical
setting. For the most part I use the
language and mythology of western
medicine as opposed to other traditional
healing methods such as TCM and
Native medicine. I feel comfortable with
western medicine, especially the long
tradition of western botanical medicine
now driven mostly underground. I find
that sharing a language and mythology
with my clients and with their other
practitioners increases understanding
and avoids potential problems.
That said, I truly believe that western
modalities of medicine and science do
not exclude concepts of "spirit" and
"energetics" and such. A clinical practice
based on holistic experience, rooted in a
specific place, is possible and in fact was
the norm up until quite recently.
What can I expect from a consultation?
In person (preferred): You will fill out an
extensive intake form, which we will then
go over together. This intake form asks
questions about your main health issue(s)
as well as things that might seem
irrelevant, but which add up to make a
more complete picture of your situation.
I may ask to read your blood pressure
and/or feel your pulse. Based on the
whole picture, I will recommend herbs,
supplements, exercises, and further
resources to you. I am committed to
putting the care of your health in your
hands, so I will put emphasis on
inexpensive remedies and things you can
do yourself. Sometimes I'll have remedies
on hand, and sometimes I will need to
order them and have them available soon.
Email: You will fill out the same intake
form, and our conversation will take place
over email or phone rather than in person.
I will make recommendations and can
either send you the remedies you request
or help you find local sources.
Initial consult: $50 - $5 sliding scale,
typically $20. Follow up consults: $20 -
$0, typically $10. No one will be turned
away because of inability to pay.
